Goin’ to the chapel (or guild hall)

I am sure many of you who are currently viewing simonorourke.com are doing so by way of the invitation sent to you recently. For those to whom the above does not apply, you may have figured out from the title of this post that myself and Amanda will be getting married. Very soon.

Amanda and I have been engaged for four years, but have been waiting for the ‘perfect everything’ for the wedding. Case in point: The original plans were to rent the Ice Chapel in Quebec for the wedding.

We found out soon enough, however, that it planning such a grand ceremony just wasn’t what we wanted. We want small, intimate, rememberable. So, with that said, we started looking at alternatives for the wedding, and that’s when we found ‘The Guild Hall’ (picture to the right). The Guild Hall is a lovely building in Shelburne (Nova Scotia), most noted for the reason it was built: As a prop for the movie that was filmed here, “The Scarlet Letter“, starring Demi Moore and Gary Oldman.

The wedding is on August 16th (2008), 2:00pm, at The Guild Hall in Shelburne (map below), with the reception to follow shortly thereafter at Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club (map below). At the close of the reception, myself and Amanda will be heading to the casino in Halifax, to basically relax before the honeymoon (if applicable; work is crazy and we have a new datacenter to launch late August!).

We would like to thank everyone in advance for their assistance with putting the wedding together at relatively short notice. The Guild Hall and Yacht Club have been exceptionally accommodating and a fine example for local businesses, especially those that are frequented by visitors to the area.

So on August 16th, please do your best to attend. We’ll have a tentative schedule ready at the ceremony, which will offer brief bullet points for the reception (speeches, toasts, etc).

For those of you coming in early (Out of towners), you will also be my guest at the Yacht Club on Friday evening, the night before the wedding.
